RISK MANAGEMENT

For over 50 years, RCABC has continuously identified the potential risks that roofing contractors and their employees are exposed to every day. The RCABC Roofing Practices Manual (RPM) contains the standards that help to guide architects, engineers and consultants in the creation of specifications designed to prevent losses due to poor roofing practices and the use of sub-standard roofing materials. The standards, as well as the materials listed in the manual, form the basis of every professional roofing specification in BC.

RCABC requires that every roofing contractor member carries a minimum of $5,000,000 liability insurance coverage (most have ten million), current WorkSafeBC clearance letters, a "hot works" endorsement to ensure that their policy covers the use of torches for some roofing applications, proof that employees have complete the National Torch Safety program as well as compliance with specific policies regarding the use of open flames, propane and implementation of fire watches. RCABC policy prohibits torching directly to combustible materials on any roof.

It is also mandatory for every RCABC roofing contractor member to have completed the Certificate of Recognition (COR) safety program, a third party company safety program audited by the
BC Construction Safety Alliance
