RGC Guarantee Program
INDEPENDENT INSPECTION
Inspections required under the RGC Guarantee Program must be conducted by an inspector acceptable to RGC who is employed by one of the accepted INDEPENDENT inspection firms active in British Columbia. A current listing is included under Tab 1.
RCABC supports the Western Canadian Chapter of the Roof Consultants Institute (RCI) in its goal of educating and skill-testing roofing inspectors. Applicants for Independent Inspector are required to inform RGC as to their membership status in RCI when submitting their application for acceptance and within the 24-month probation period acquires the Registered Roof Observer status from RCI.
MATERIAL ACCEPTANCE
The five (5), ten (10) and five-year residential RGC Guarantees covers BOTH workmanship AND materials for accepted materials.
The benefit to the building owner is obvious – No longer will his roof leak be bounced back and forth between a roofing applicator; and material manufacturer or supplier each pointing to the other as the cause of the problem.
The RGC Guarantee Certificate covers both. It is the RGC, which will determine financial responsibility of the roofing contractor and the material supplier AFTER having ensured that the leak is fixed, pursuant to the Guarantee.
Manufacturers and / or suppliers who wish to have their products covered by the RGC Guarantee Program are required to submit a detailed application.
The materials listed are those which have been accepted by RGC upon application by the manufacturer / supplier to RGC in compliance with RGC policy A-041 and for which RGC Guarantee Certificates are available.
The acceptance of these materials in no way reflects on the quality or performance of other materials not listed.
DETERMINING LONGEVITY AND PERFORMANCE
Design
This is the responsibility of the architect, specifier, or roofing consultant and the regulatory authority: for example, the local municipality.
Application
RGC can provide a Guarantee Certificate when you use an RCABC contractor. Because RCABC sets tough standards for membership, we know that the roof will be constructed properly by trained and skilled workers.
Material Used
RCABC contractors have a selected list of materials from RCABC approved manufacturers and suppliers. These materials have to meet or surpass our rigid technical specifications.
The materials must pass rigorous third party testing and our approval process. Quality materials and a quality installation ensure that the roof will last. The combination of proper application and the right materials for the job enables us to provide that all-important Guarantee.
Inspection
Our Guarantee program, for the ICI sector, requires independent third party inspection when the roof is installed, and a re-inspection at the end of two years. We recommend that the owner arrange two annual inspections, or implement a service contract with an RCABC member.
Protection
Your RGC roof must be protected from damage by users or other trades. Your roof is designed for specific load characteristics, so if an aerobics area or roof top garden is installed at some later date, your investment in your roof could be compromised.
The RGC Guarantee program protects your roofing investment with a five-year or ten-year Guarantee.
