About the Roofing Contractors Association of British Columbia

RCABC brings together professional roofing contractors, manufacturers and suppliers who are dedicated to the promotion and protection of the public interest in everything that relates to roofing. Our mission is to give our members the training, technical support and leadership to enable them to offer their customers the highest quality roofing practices, guarantees and business ethics in roofing and related industries in BC.  The position supports the activities within the various departments at our facility in North Langley and around the province.

Technical Advisor

Reporting to the Director, RoofStar Guarantee Program, the RoofStar Technical Advisor is responsible for providing technical advisory services related to the roofing sector and related industries.  The Technical Advisor acts as a liaison between the RCABC, its Technical Department, building owners, and the consulting community on the technical interpretation of the Roofing Practices Manual, design considerations, quality control and dispute resolution. Attending meetings with our stakeholders offsite is a requirement.

Position Description

Administration of the RoofStar Guarantee Program

  • Interpretation of Guarantee standards
  • Review of drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with good roofing practices and Guarantee standards
  • Issuing variances
  • Manage RoofStar claims process
  • Actively participate in the review and editing process of the Roofing Practices Manual ensuring it is up to date with industry changes

Technical Advisory Services

  • Working with the Director, RoofStar Guarantee Program, Business Development and other members of the RCABC team to communicate RoofStar Guarantee policies and practices pertaining to technical roofing matters
  • Participating in Lunch & Learn sessions, conferences, trade shows, seminars, business presentations and other events on behalf of RCABC
  • Liaising with members, other associations, government, consultants and stakeholders to obtain and provide information and respond to technical inquiries as required
  • Liaising with provincial and municipal building officials to obtain and provide information as required

Committee and taskforce participation

  • Participation in roofing related research projects
  • Standards review and development
  • Industry related committees

 Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will have the TQ / RRO designation, or post-secondary education in Building Sciences and equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience in the roofing industry with direct knowledge of multiple roof systems
  • Ability to read architectural drawings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
  • Experience with AutoCAD or SketchUP a plus
  • Knowledge of the Guarantee Standards in the Roofing Practices Manual
  • Excellent Communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable participating in and leading technical presentations
  • The ability to make informed decisions and judgements based on information available
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and competing deadlines
  • Think outside the box approach to problem-solving
  • Desire to contribute to the overall success of RCABC
  • Strong assessment and decision-making skills
  • Self-starter who thrives in an environment where he/she can be equally successful working independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
