SUMMARY:Direct sourced equipment and supplies: the risks of bypassing the trades contractor - Virtual - March 7\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:There has been an increase in recent years of the practice of owners and general contractors or construction managers self-sourcing some equipment\, supplies or materials for construction projects (Owners Furnished Items). While the specifics vary somewhat from trade to trade\, the issues\, concerns and risks for trade contractors are fairly consistent and significant regardless of your area of specialty. \nThis is a growing concern for many contractors\, whose expertise and experience is not being fully valued. The practice\, influenced by the mistaken notion that it will reduce overall costs\, represents a meaningful threat to trade contractors. \nECABC\, MCABC and RCABC have partnered with Dr. Awad Hanna\, one of North America’s premier educators in construction\, to lead a virtual seminar of the risks of direct sourced materials for trade and subcontractors\, and to share some mitigation techniques you can implement to reduce your exposure on these projects. \nAssociated challenges that will be covered include poor labour productivity\, insurance and liability concerns\, compliance and warranty limitations\, late delivery and much more. \nThis seminar is complimentary and exclusively for ECABC\, MCABC and RCABC members. \nEvent Details:\nDate: March 7\, 2025\nTime: 9:00 am to 10:30 am\nLocation: Zoom (link to be provided to registrants the day before the session)\nCost: Free for ECABC\, MCABC and RCABC Members \nAbout the Presenter:  \n\n\n\n\nDr. Awad Hanna\, Hanna Consulting Group\, Inc. \nA registered professional engineer in the U.S. and Canada\, Dr. Hanna is a professor and Chair of the Construction Engineering and Management Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. With over 30 years of experience as a construction practitioner\, educator and researcher\, his primary focus lies in enhancing construction processes at various levels\, including labour\, project and organization. \nLearn More
